Replacing an old or inadequate canvas gives your kilt a new lease on life by:
protecting the pleats from blowning-out, and
providing a more comfortable fit about the waist.
The new canvas will be 4 ½" - 5" wide and will run from kilt-strap to kilt-strap, providing a strong foundation for the kilt.  Since the canvas touches almost all parts of the kilt, replacing it amounts to a partial re-making of the kilt.
